Since it’s almost the commercial holiday of forced affection that is Valentine’s Day, I thought I would share some lovely things to do in Glasgow, which won’t cost you a penny. Whether you’re in a relationship, are having an alternative PALentine’s day with friends, or simply don’t give a hoot about the month of February whatsoever, there’s a lot going on in Glasgow in the weeks ahead, so here are my (free) favourites:
Creativity is encouraged at Laura A. Hunter’s Lovelines event at Unlimited Studios in Hyndland, from 7th – 14th February. Visitors can write, draw or paint something with love at the heart of it, to be put on display for all to see, much like the airing of one’s dirty laundry.
You could wander into Kelvingrove Art Gallery and take in the majestic surroundings, while enjoying the art, exhibitions and an afternoon organ recital which echoes throughout this grand and glorious building.
If you fancy seeing a film for free then visit Bridgeton Library, in the old Olympia cinema building and get comfy in a booth in their BFI Mediatheque, while making the most of the classic film and television on offer.
If you’re a fan of Talking Heads, you can head south for an evening of music dedicated to the band on 13th February. This is just one of the Linn Lounge events, where refreshments are provided to accompany a high quality listening experience.
Whether you’re single or attached, Glasgow is an absolute stunner of a city and one which I’d happily join for a drink, dawdle or date any day.
