All The Women Who Independent (International Women’s Day)

I can’t think of a better reason for quoting Destiny’s Child than the fact that it’s International Women’s Day on Saturday 8th March and there are a lot of amazing things happening in Glasgow to mark the occasion.

The Climbing Academy is offering ladies free entry to its bouldering centres in Glasgow and Bristol, so it’s an ideal opportunity to pay them a visit and give it a go if you never have.

There’s a free talk on Women in Ancient Egypt at the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre (GMRC), which will explore the lives of Egyptian women all those years ago and the GMRC is an amazing treasure trove of old exhibitions and artefacts from Glasgow’s galleries and museums.

Glasgow Women’s Library is showcasing its Illuminated Letters exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) from Saturday until the 16th. Illuminated Letters is a collection of beautifully crafted letters, celebrating women throughout history, from suffragettes and anarchists, to engineers and educators.

The Virginia Gallery is hosting Her Story, an exhibition of drawings and paintings by Hazel Gore and Catriona Ruth Paterson. This exhibition explores the stereotypical gender roles of women and uses fairytales and storytelling to portray the most recognisable female figures in society.

Obviously we don’t need just one day to celebrate the wonder of womankind, but it’s a nice opportunity to get involved in the aforementioned events and is as good a reason as any for me to quote some tacky/amazing Destiny’s Child.
